MISSING LINK. Strategically located in the heart of Bukit Bintang area, the 7-storey Pavilion KL Shopping Centre anchors an integrated 4-part mixed-use urban development, which also comprises 2 luxury residential towers rising above the retail podium, a 19-storey corporate office block, ad a proposed boutique hotel. The iconic shopping landmark, with 1.37 million square feet of net lettable space with 450 retail outlets, is demarcated into 6 retail precincts identified as Bintang Circle, Couture, Home, Connection, Gourmet Emporium and Seventh Heaven. The irregular shape and topography features of the site create opportunities for multiple, multi-level and disabled-friendly access points. The main pedestrian entry is through a forecourt off the higher street level 3, which leads shoppers into the mall, descending down a grand staircase onto the lower level 2 of the central space of Bintang Circle. Visitors can also enter the shopping mall via the 1 km street-front 23 duplexes high street retail shop that fronts to the wide pedestrian street. Deep pedestrian sidewalks that flank the centre are fit with street furniture and shady trees to promote pedestrian traffic. Landscaping unifies external and internal spaces to create user-friendly environment. The shopping centre is also identifiable with strong distinguishing design features, which include a skylight roof covering over the entire linear length of the horseshoe-shaped 'spine' of the shopping centre, and a 42m in diameter truncated cone, central skylight presiding over Bintang Circle.
The cone is steel framed, clad both internally as well as externally with aluminium composite panels and is supported on 12 columns rising over five floors.
The fully glazed, dark-tinted performance glass introduces natural lighting in a controlled manner that subtly opens up the space within and allows for climate control, creating a comfortable shopping atmospheric environment. As a whole, the design, detailing and planning inculcate and complement the vibrant retail experiential sensation for shoppers.
